Soul: Don't neglect Mama Deavs!

Many of my friends and family know about this situation, but if you don't let me fill you in a little bit so this goal makes sense. (Like I said, some of these will need some explanation :)

Edward Deavers was one of my high school teachers, Drama directors, mentors and friends. He was a larger than life figure and could inspire a group of normally apathetic teenagers like nothing you've never seen! Ohhh Ed. How we miss you.

Sadly, he passed away of a heart attack on February 12, 2010 and left behind his beloved mother, Mrs. Dorothy Deavers. The Drama Department made her part of our family and tried to visit her or invite her to visit us as much as possible. As the months rolled by and our busy lives became somewhat normal again, Mrs. Deavers was still grieving the loss of her son.

I'm not saying that we do neglect her; a lot of us still call and visit and send postcards from our summer vacations. We get together to celebrate her birthday and Ed's birthday and the anniversary of his passing. We need her and she needs us. But for all that we do, there's so much that we don't. It's hard for me to understand how lonely she must be, and if I can alleviate just a little bit of that loneliness then my job here is done!

So this is my goal, to send up a prayer for her whenever I think about her, do things I know she'll appreciate, call as often as I can to see how her week has been, and when I have some gas money, drive out to visit her. If you're reading this and you know her, please join me and make that same commitment. I used to think I owed it to Mr. Deavers, but no matter how much it hurts, he is gone. She is still here. We owe it to her. And she is SO MUCH FUN! Just being around her will bless you and lift your spirits!

Just take a look at these pictures! This past weekend, the Drama Seniors got together one last time for "breakfast for dinner" at her house before we all go our separate ways for college.

Awwwww, how presh!
She truly is a lady in every sense of the word.
We love you Mama Deavs!!!
